Stigma around menstruation and women’s health and a lack of emphasis in medical training and education lead to persistent gaps in diagnosis and treatment. The vast majority of healthcare providers are not comfortable recognizing the symptoms of the disease.
Research is underfunded and underprioritized, and available treatment options are often costly and inaccessible.
